Children Living with HIV/AIDS - Get Together

CLHA Get-together on 22nd July 2012 at Japnese Park, Rohini

Children Living with HIV/AIDS (CLHA) get together program have conducted on 22nd July 2012 at Japanese park, Rohini, Sector-11, New Delhi. 42 children and 32 parents have participated in the meeting. CLHA are more vulnerable due to HIV infection. They do not have proper opportunity to live a healthy life, enjoy and entertainment with friends, sharing their view, opinion, play with friends. Their life is struggling with various activities like busy with study, taking medicines regularly, and falling sickness, taking treatment, doing their daily work. They do not have proper place to play.

Since parents are also struggling with HIV infection. They do not have the proper time to spend with their children for the healthy relationship with children. But any how Parents are doing their responsibility in a proper manner. In this beautiful occasion children have came with very neat and clean and wearing good cloth (just like a festival) along with their parents.

All the children & parents have received the little refreshment as biscuits, fruity and snacks. We have started the meeting with a prayer song lead by Gladis as “he malik tera bande hum…….”

We have measured the children height, weight and CD4 count etc and Educational status of the children. One child is not going to school due to mental problem. We have encouraged his mother to get admission at mental school for her child.

GAMES:
All CLHA were enjoyed and participated well with various games like:

·         Spoon race(6 yrs to 11   age)
·         Frog  race (6yrs to 11 yrs age)
·         Passing the ball (6yrs to 11 yrs age)
·         Blind fold (6 yrs to 11 yrs age)
·         Three legs (12 yrs to above)
·         Passing the ball (12 yrs to above)

During the games they were felt very happy to participate without any hesitation. They have shared their thoughts, emotions, skills and talents with each others.  Really all the children were very co operative with games. They had no any negative thoughts. They performed as normal children.

14 Children have more encouraged receiving the prizes as lunch box for better performance.

PARENTS GET TOGETHER:

At the same times we have a get together with parents and discussed on how you have overcome to reduce the stress during their crises especially CLHA’s sickness. Parents are well aware about the crises and how to handle the situation with the positively. One of the positive widow who was with NSM since 2000 and taking care of her infected child by birth itself. She was mentally prepared her well to take her child to hospital for treatment. Doctor used to say as she is the only patient come with smiling face and get treatment for her child even though she has gone through the mental depression.

Another one of the mother shared her painful experience with the school principal during her child admission. Her child is infected with HIV and also suffered with Thalasemia.  Principal had never given the admission because of HIV. Then child got the admission in another school. The principal has asked her “if your child is HIV infection, you must also be HIV infection”. So principal had never given the admission.

One of the child who was studying in the school, he was not regular in school due to weak and sickness and taking treatment frequently. Principal asked the mother that tells me the reason why he is not regular in school? Mother was very uncomfortable to say the reason. But at the end mother shared that her child is having HIV infection. After, she revealed her and child status, the situation was totally changed. Principal was so helpful to understand her critical situation and principal had given the medicine to her child.

Finally parents have expressed their needs to visit tourist place like Goa, Sikim, Manali, Massoori along with their positive children. Seven years back NSM used to take the children and families to any of the tourist place on every year.

We have found that few CLHA are really needs of special attention.
1.      Manish 18 month C/O Vimla
2.      Rohit,11 yrs, C/O Baby
3.      Rohit C/O Laxmi , due to talasemia, once in a month he takes the blood.
